How to fix a power outlet
Often there are situations when you plug into an electrical outlet, and you hear crackling from it, smoke is coming in or the outlet is just very loose. In such cases, repairs are needed. If you want to do this yourself, you will need: a flat and Phillips screwdriver, pliers, electrical tape and indicator.
Before starting any work, it is necessary to turn off all the machines, switches on the meter (they should have the inscriptions "ON" "OFF", or "ON" "OFF", switch to "OFF" "OFF") and unscrew all the fuses, this it must be done very carefully so that no live parts can rush about. As soon as we all turn off the power, we need to check on the outlet that we will repair, the presence of voltage, using the indicator.
As soon as we make sure that there is no voltage, we can proceed with the repair. To begin, remove the cover of the outlet by unscrewing the bolt for this, most often it is in the middle of the outlet. And we look at the state of the contacts, they should be the color of copper, should not be green (oxidized copper), black or gray (the result of poor contact).
If the contacts are not copper in color, they must be cleaned with a file or sandpaper. If through holes appear on the contact itself, or the metal is thinner in some places, the outlet must be replaced.
The plug should be firmly inserted into the socket; if this is not the case, bend the contacts to each other (which includes one contact from the plug). After that, check the reliability of connecting the wires to the outlet, pull them slightly, they should not pop out, fall out and be securely screwed. If this is not the case, tighten the contacts with a screwdriver. If bare wires that are suitable for the outlet are visible, they must be insulated with electrical tape.
If the entire outlet staggers, you need to tighten the installation bolts, which are located horizontally from the right and the left of the outlet vertically in the middle. Tighten them so that the socket does not stagger.
Before carrying out work, it is necessary to warn everyone who is in the house or apartment to avoid accidentally applying voltage to other people, if this is not possible, you need to hang a sign on the machine that is off, that repair work is underway.
