How to find the right electrician to replace wiring in the house
So, in front of you is a "specialist" who is ready to start work in your apartment (house). How to determine that this electrician is exactly the one you were looking for, having phoned several companies and private masters?
1. The very first, a self-respecting master will take off his shoes and ask for slippers at the entrance to the apartment. Before starting work, he will warn you about places where, in his opinion, it will be dirty and will ask you to remove / hide objects that may get dirty.
2. The foreman (or foreman) who will work here directly should go for measurement (initial inspection, budgeting). Such a condition will allow you to no longer repeat your conditions to each new representative, and the master will be able to take everything into account as correctly as possible and the "third person" error will be excluded.
3. Electrician - a specialist does not start a conversation with money, but with the amount of work, conditions, your wishes.
4. A real electrician will find out about the planned electrical appliances and estimate their power, calculate the total possible load.
5. The first thing that electricians usually ask is a project, if it is not there, then it will make an executive scheme in the future.
6. The project does not always reflect your actual needs. Therefore, the electrician will specify the desired location of sockets, switches and lamps and make calculations based on this. Here we are talking only about small changes - no more than 1-2 outlets for the entire project. More global change will require designer work.
7. An important place of your conversation is the location of the shield, here the applicant for the title of "specialist" will give recommendations on the installation location, taking into account the location of the entrance to the apartment (house). He will explain that the meter (meter) should be located in a heated room, because otherwise the accuracy of its readings is not guaranteed. It is impossible to place metering devices on the terrace, in annexes not heated in winter, in attics and in basements. (p. 1.5.27 PUE). In the latter two, also due to violation of fire and electrical safety standards.
8. After examining all the rooms (and you don’t have a project), the electrician will determine the number of necessary lines and the places of their laying, approximate places for installing junction boxes and their number.
9. It is up to the designer to calculate the protection, but an experienced electrician can do it. Basic principles: sufficiency, selectivity (sequence of operation). In no case should you overstate the circuit breakers. A competent contractor will NEVER go in the wake of a customer who asks to put a machine more powerful, because "Knocks out."
10. The same applies to wiring accessories, cable, etc., if their characteristics do not meet safety standards or are not suitable for this type of wiring.
11. Protection should ensure safety and limit the “appetites” of electrical illiterate users. And why should they be literate? The performer should think for them. By the way, one can indirectly check the qualifications of the master on these issues.
12. Your future employee should make a detailed list of materials, indicating the main parameters. and at the same time he will not chase after extra running meters of wiring, wanting to earn more, he will always tell you the best option. Moreover, he will explain and justify his proposals; usually in the know about the price of materials and will be able to accurately calculate, based on the list, the approximate cost.
13. An electrician, a specialist in his field, will name the price for electrical wiring work only after a careful study of the situation, the necessary measurements and a list of works. And not looking at the ceiling and moving his lips. Moreover, a mixture of greed, a desire to earn more and a fear that the customer will refuse will not be reflected on his face. He will not bargain, he knows the value of his work and does not overstate it, for the sake of momentary benefit. If the amount of work is solid in his understanding, then he will offer a discount or perform some service for free.
14. A master who respects a client is not looking for a place to take money for additional work. Usually, if the master made a mistake in the measurement, then only the amount for the purchase of the material will change, and the COST OF WORKS WILL BE CONSTANT! And only if you have new desires, the specialist will recalculate to a greater or lesser cost
15. A competent contractor may offer to entrust him to purchase the necessary materials. People who do this kind of work regularly usually have reliable suppliers who know where to buy accessories. You should not expect that you will receive materials at wholesale prices, but a self-respecting performer will not sell you materials at a price higher than the average retail price. Purchasing and delivering materials to an object is also a large part of the work and, most likely, you will have to pay for it. However, in the end you will save, because do not spend time searching, gasoline on the road and do not throw money away, if, due to your ignorance, buy something inappropriate. The contractor, purchasing materials, is also thinking about their further installation. Thus, you also save on work, because work in cramped conditions, partial revision with a “file”, alteration, extra assembly are paid separately and can significantly affect the total cost of work.
16. A true master not only does the work neatly and beautifully, he does not leave trash or dirt behind him. An unwritten code of masters requires you to take away the workplace - sweep and collect garbage. If there is a lot of garbage, then the master will offer you to put the bags in a certain place (for FREE) or take them to the trash - this is already additional work and is paid separately. After leaving the master you can only wipe the floor !!!
